Das Denken zu untersuchen, ohne seine Prozesshaftigkeit auszuklammern, kann als radikale Reflexion bezeichnet werden. Sie behauptet nicht, ihren Gegenstand als unabhangig von der Art des Herangehens "gegeben" zu beschreiben, sondern stellt sich der Denkerfahrung und auch den (...) Gefuhlsnuancen, die eine wichtige Rolle beim Denken und Artikulieren spielen. Sie manifestiert sich in originellen Ansatzen aus Philosophie, Psychotherapie, Anthropologie und Kognitionswissenschaften und bringt innovative Denkstile jenseits hergebrachter Dualismen hervor. From Traditional Sports and Games (TSG) we have not only learned different ways of living time as well as inhabit space and a particular mode of practicing sports and games from distinct cultures, but also promoting universal dialog among people. TSG presents sustainable and ecological references for living needed even before the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nowadays, environmentally friendly policies and production methods must be taken more seriously. TSG may reveal a path to sustainable development, considering our corporeality and (...) cultural diversity. TSG are expressions of human groups that historically reproduce their way of life-based on modes of social cooperation and specific forms of relationship with nature, traditionally characterized by sustained environmental management. The purpose of this article is to discuss how TSG promotes intercultural dialog with a focus on sustainability, and how it empowers people and creates equality among its players. We understand that TSG can break socio-cultural barriers. For this study, we considered data from a Brazilian experience of TSG’s Festival held at a public school in the city of São Paulo (Brazil), organized in collaboration with our study group. Data consists of observations recorded in pictures and films during the processes of organization, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of a TSG Festival, held in a public school in São Paulo, Brazil from the years of 2017 and 2018, with the participation of 800 students from the first to the ninth grade of elementary school, aged between 7 and 17 years. The first step in our analysis is taken from a dynamic called “Talking Circles,” where researchers registered dialog about experiences and used specific literature about TSG, from a philosophical perspective. The team and students from our study group that organized these events were invited to participate in four different Talking Circles. Approximately 20 people participated in each one of these meetings. Recurrences that emerged from these Talking Circles are presented in the results and explored afterward. What does this experience–from bodies in movement, artistic or sporting, or both–teach about intercultural dialog and empowerment? Such gestures indicate a cultural heritage and corporeal wisdom that allows humans to face new encounters and understanding in peace, recognizing humanity common to all of us, regardless of our origins. Ethical and aesthetical results of such dialog reveal possibilities to be explored in our relationship with different cultures and the environment, providing points of sustainable development through TSG. Las puertas de las cárceles no fueron, son o serán las únicas que definan el proceso de custodia de las mujeres negras dentro y fuera de las cárceles. Como en todos los aspectos de la vida social, política y económica, la experiencia de la cárcel no puede pensarse desde una perspectiva general y aislada de sus lazos con un sistema histórico de opresión. O sea, a partir de la idea, aparente o subliminal, de que allí se encuentran personas definidas como (...) "mujeres", cuya raza, condición social y sexualidad tienen poco o nada que ver en sus experiencias de vida hasta ese momento o a partir de entonces, ya sea dentro o fuera de los muros custodiados. En este sentido, tomando como referencia teórica una epistemología jurídica feminista, interseccional y decolonial, el objetivo de este texto es reflexionar sobre lo que ha sido el sistema de justicia penal brasileño en las últimas décadas, a partir de lo que Brasil siempre fue, a lo largo de los siglos, para las mujeres negras. The doorways of prisons do not and will not be the sole ones to define the process of penal custody of black women within and outside these same prisons. As in all aspects of social, political, and economic lives, the experience of prison cannot be thought from a general and subliminal perspective, one that could be found in people generally defined as “woman” but whose race, social condition, and sexuality would have little or nothing to do with their life experiences (...) up to that moment or beginning at that moment, within or outside the surveilled walls. From an epistemological standpoint that is a feminist, intersectional, and decolonial, this article reflects upon what Brazil's system of penal justice has been in the past decades, in continuity with what Brazil has always been for black women over the centuries. O artigo analisa a metáfora da besta de sete cabeças e sua intertextualidade no Apocalipse de João e textos antigos egípcios e mesopotâmicos bem como com o Antigo Testamento. Emprega os conceitos de texto da cultura, intertextualidade e semiosfera, tendo como referencial a Semiótica da Cultura. Parte da pressuposição de que elementos linguísticos e conceituais, plantados na memória das culturas, permitem o entrecruzamento dos textos de diferentes épocas e lugares. A metáfora da besta é analisada em suas conexões sígnicas com (...) textos antigos nos quais também se verifica a construção de monstros de sete cabeças, como a Paleta de Narmer de 3100 a.C. e o Cilindro de Tell Asmar de 2200 a.C., entre outros. Essas conexões indicam que o texto apocalíptico bíblico não está isolado das culturas de seu tempo. (shrink)

No contexto da realização de megaeventos esportivos no Brasil, este artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre as práticas de agendamento das Olimpíadas Rio 2016 em relação à problemática do zika vírus pela Folha de S. Paulo e pela Zero Hora. O método utilizado é a análise de conteúdo, de Laurence Bardin. A amostra compreende o mês de fevereiro de 2016. Foram localizadas 19 matérias na Folha e três matérias em Zero Hora. A partir disso, trabalhamos sobre a defasagem noticiosa entre (...) esses veículos de comunicação. Os resultados indicam que o agendamento de cada veículo está vinculado aos fluxos da informação em cada plataforma midiática. Na Folha, há uma cobertura intensiva e difusa, enquanto em Zero Hora o agendamento é seletivo e concentrado. (shrink)

Aesthetic chills occur in artistic, scientific and religious context. We introduce a theoretical framework relating them to humans’ vital need for cognition. We discuss the implications of such a framework and the plausibility of our hypothesis. Numerous references to chills are introduced.

This paper introduces the Thinking at the Edge (TAE) method, developed by Eugene Gendlin with Mary Hendricks and Kye Nelson. In the context of the international research project and training initiative Embodied Critical Thinking (ECT), TAE is understood as a political and critical practice. Our objective is to move beyond a criticism of reductionism, into a practice of thinking that can complement empirical, conceptual and logical implications with what is implied by the vibrant complexity of one’s lived experience in one’s (...) place and time. The second person helps the first to explore, elaborate and clarify very carefully felt dimensions of thinking, which hold intricate structures, contexts, perplexities and intuitions that prove relevant for one’s research. The second person also supports the first to become sensitive to the effects of the language and concepts she uses. A non-imposing, tentative use of language that touches the intricate texture of lived experience is at the core of this method, allowing to widen one’s conceptual structure. In this paper, the cluster of TAE moves are characterized with examples of accounts of TAE processes. The description of the TAE phases includes concepts of Gendlin’s embodied theory of meaning that explain the efficacy of the moves (“direct reference,” “explication,” “crossing”). (shrink)

The purpose of this article is to investigate human spatiality and perception in general, with the experience of adventure sports as its background. These activities highlight especially our strong relationship with the world when we consider the specific way in which the environment participates in the development of human potential. We first analyse the notions of risk and instability as important elements in adventure sports. Then we explore the notion of experience and spatiality, considering the way in which we establish (...) our relationship with the world. The theoretical background is found in the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty and Bachelard’s phenomenology of imagination to investigate perspectives of space among adventurers. We hold that more than a different range of corporeal techniques, adventure sports can teach us a way of interrogating and looking at the world. They require a peculiar sensibility that allows our body to experience the environment in favour of a corporeal wisdom. Alternative sports indicate the possibility that we have to build up different ways of inhabiting the world and comprehending it. (shrink)

O trabalho que se segue tem como objetivo principal abordar o conceito de bem comum de John Finnis, apresentando-o como um requisito prático-razoável e uma garantia material para a realização do florescimento humano. A fim de alcançar tal propósito, é necessário percorrer o caminho epistemológico que o autor traçou, analisando alguns dos seus conceitos fundamentais, para então chegar na sua noção de bem comum como uma comunidade política perfeita. Desse modo, inicia-se a pesquisa estudando o processo de entendimento dos princípios (...) da razão prática pelo fenômeno do insight; os bens humanos básicos como razões para a ação; e a atenção necessária aos requisitos da razoabilidade prática. Em um segundo momento, será explorada a relação do direito com a moral, ou seja, abordar-se-á como a razoabilidade prática - virtude moral que ordena a ação - afeta o exercício do direito, já que os atos jurídicos são uma força fundamental para a concretização do bem comum. Sobre essa segunda parte, há um enfoque nos fundamentos da ação humana, apresentando o florescimento humano - a felicidade - como o seu fim último, e a sua relação com o direito. Construído o raciocínio ético da proposta finnisiana da lei natural, a última parte do artigo aborda como a natureza racional da ação, através do direito, conduz ao bem comum. Portanto, atendo à princípios de razoabilidade prática, buscou-se apresentar o bem comum como uma garantia concreta e substancialmente prático-razoável para que as pessoas possam por si mesmas perseguir os bens que as realizem humanamente. The United Nations World Tourism Organization has acknowledged 2020 as the worst year in tourism history due to the worldwide pandemic COVID-19. Destinations, tourists, local communities, stakeholders, and residents, and their daily activities were affected. Thus, wellbeing and resilience are two crucial variables to help the industry and the people recover. This research aims to analyze early positive approaches and attitudes to respond to the negative impact of COVID-19 in tourism everyday activities that have at its core wellbeing and resilience, (...) the two main variables of the Positive Psychology field of studies. A systematic literature review was conducted, following PRISMA guidelines to achieve this aim. The research was done using the Online Knowledge Library and all the available databases. The research led to 32 articles that were screened using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 18 scientific articles met all criteria. Overall, results show that a positive and resilient approach to deal with the adverse outcomes of the pandemic is a concern for stakeholders and the future of the organizations in the tourism and hospitality sector, as is tourists’ wellbeing. However, less research has been done on wellbeing and a clear lack of research regarding residents’ wellbeing and resilience is evident. A deeper study of wellbeing and resilience in tourism is needed, and actual practices and interventions to ensure that all tourism actors have the resources to overcome the pandemic and restart the industry’s daily lives feeling well and safe. The paper elaborates the classical pragmatist understanding of cognition as a transformational process. The pragmatists’ emphasis on the situatedness of cognition, on abductive moves and feeling will also be discussed in the light of the contemporary debate on conceptuality and givenism. Our inquiry on a classical pragmatist approach shifts today’s emphasis on knowledge qua justification of belief and suggests ways to transcend the dualism of conceptuality vs. non-conceptuality. Reconsidering the Peircean category of Firstness, Dewey’s quality of situations and Gendlin’s felt (...) sense as subtle tacit moments in cognitive processes enhance a fine-grained and contextualized understanding of cognition in terms of a transformative process. Micro-phenomenology is a successful research tool with major environmental implications. However, there is much to be gained by also approaching it as a philosophical method in its own right. As ….

Schoeller untersucht die sprachliche Herausforderung, die damit einhergeht, erlebte Hintergründe und Zusammenhänge zu formulieren. Wird eine situative Komplexität zur Sprache gebracht, so klärt sich häufig erst, „um was es geht", und zwar auf eine Weise, die einen weiterdenken und -fühlen lässt. Dabei entstehen bisweilen äusserst ungewöhnliche Aussagen. Untersucht wird in dieser Studie die Präzision einer tastenden Formulierung, die eine nicht vorhersehbare Entwicklung von Bedeutung zulässt. Eine solche Bedeutung ist sprachphilosophisch kaum mit den Modellen der Repräsentation oder der Konstruktion zu (...) erfassen, auch durchbricht sie den Rahmen der Ordinary Language Philosophy. Unter Berücksichtigung der Ansätze des Embodiment entwirft Schoeller im Schnittfeld von Pragmatismus, Phänemenologie, Hermeneutik, Psychologie und Kognitionswissenschaften eine Bedeutungstheorie, in der situatives Erleben und Sprachgebrauch differenzierend und klärend interagieren. Ein gründlicheres Verstehen des Formulierungs-Prozesses kommt auch im Alltag einer nicht-reduktiven und subtilen Sprachpraxis im Umgang mit gewöhnlicher Erfahrung entgegen. (shrink)

Prior to A Process Model, Gendlin’s theoretical and practical work focused on the interfacing of bodily-felt meaningfulness and symbolization. In A Process Model, Gendlin does something much wider and more philosophically primary. The hermeneutic and pragmatist distinction between the concept of experience, on the one hand, and actual experiential process, on the other, becomes for Gendlin the methodological basis for a radical reconceptualization of the body. Wittgenstein’s formulation of “meaning” as “language-use in situations” is spelled out by Gendlin in embodied (...) terms, yielding a profound new grasp of language, meaning, situation, language-use and culture as interactional body-process. Gendlin, in building his text, answers the pragmatist critique of a wrong progression of thinking where the results of an inquiry are read back to be its premises. With his central concept “eveving” Gendlin shows how the seeming determinacy of preceding structure is opened in the actual occurring. He thereby elaborates a new conception of continuity where the possibility for responsive novelty is emergent in the event itself. The conceptual development of the text itself instances this kind of emergent novelty. We will somewhat follow Gendlin’s own path in using language-in-situations as entry-point into his more fundamental process-thinking, thereby asking ourselves how to engage his new kind of model. Assume-se a investigação narrativa (auto)biográfica como modo de documentar as experiências ambientais da formação docente. Desse modo, apresentam-se as narrativas das experiências envolvendo a Educação Ambiental na formação inicial de uma professora-pesquisadora, as quais mostram, que a temática da sua pesquisa de mestrado está relacionada com as experiências ambientais vividas no contexto escolar e acadêmico reforçando a perspectiva da investigação a partir das memórias da infância e o reencontro com narrativas construídas na formação inicial. Apresentam-se compreensões relacionadas a formação docente (...) ambiental e as potencialidades do processo narrativo (auto)biográfico centrado nas narrativas revividas e recontadas ao resgatar o diário de formação da professora-pesquisadora. Argumenta-se que o ato de documentar a experiência de formação mostra às potencialidades da pesquisa narrativa e reafirma a importância da escrita (auto)biográfica no processo de investigação. Este estudo pretende discutir essa relação aproximando-a do terreno da Educação Ambiental. Desse modo num primeiro momento o texto situa a modernidade e a racionalidade; num segundo, apresentar a contribuição de Habermas sobre a temática e finalmente busca fazer algumas aproximações com Enrique Leff a partir do conceito de racionalidade ambiental. While the emphasis on embodiment and situatedness is strong in contemporary philosophy and cognitive sciences, its implications for the practice of critical thinking are just beginning to be taken seriously. The challenge is to think with the richness and the intricacy that come along with embodiment of situated knowers and on the basis of the experiential turn. Even though the embodied and experiential dimension is operative and continuously present all the time in thought and action, it is hardly acknowledged, cared (...) for, or made transparent in academic philosophical training. In doing philosophy we are actually rather trained to detach ourselves from the experiential basis of our thinking. In this paper we claim that by doing so we cut ourselves off from important sources of what it means to think for oneself. We argue that the more embodied context one dares to include in critical thinking, the more critique becomes personally and politically transformative. This has major methodological implications: one needs to learn “reading” embodied, felt experience as carefully and closely as the texts. The methods of Embodied Critical Thinking presented here are based on the micro-phenomenological approach of Claire Petitmengin and the Thinking at the Edge method developed by Eugene Gendlin and Mary Hendricks. Eugene Gendlins Philosophie bringt Fragen in die Sprachphilosophie ein, die bislang kaum ins Blickfeld geraten sind. Wie wirkt sich ein Ausdruck auf unsere Erfahrung aus, wieso verändert sich etwas, wenn wir es verbalisieren, welche Funktion spielen Gefühle für die symbolische Bedeutung und umgekehrt? Ausgehend von therapeutischer und kreativer Praxis, entwickelt Gendlin ein Prozess-Modell, um eine interaktive, „empfindliche Ordnung” zu denken, die unter anderem Alternativen zu gängige Kategorien und Modalitäten expliziert.

Este artigo apresenta parte de uma pesquisa realizada em nível de mestrado e que objetivou compreender de que forma raça e gênero se interseccionaram nas memórias acionadas sobre as experiências vividas por trabalhadoras assentadas da Fazenda Sururu de Queiroz, Varzedo/BA. Para isso, acionamos o feminismo negro e descolonial como ancoragem teórico-política para demarcar que as múltiplas opressões sofridas pelas mulheres negras estão interligadas com raça e gênero, o que implicou em visibilizar o racismo, o sexismo e o biocapitalismo nas histórias (...) de vidas destas mulheres, bem como as suas estratégias infrapolíticas como resistências em ecos das nossas ancestralidades. No âmbito metodológico, apresentamos uma abordagem de pesquisa qualitativa, de modo a priorizar o reconhecimento do território e a escuta da narrativa de mulheres negras campesinas da Fazenda Sururu. Assim, o trabalho de campo contou com visitas à comunidade e com entrevistas semiestruturadas para que as escutas das narrativas das mulheres negras campesinas fossem potencializadas. As leituras de mulheres negras intelectuais são imprescindíveis para entendermos o processo de desumanização de mulheres negras engendrado pelo capitalismo e o patriarcado. As narrativas demonstram as cosmovisões e as resistências infrapolíticas que fraturam o capitalismo, o eurocentrismo e a modernidade, agenciando e fortalecendo os legados comunitários. (shrink)

In this essay, we discuss the relationship between education, human education and ethics in the context of orthodox neoliberalism, as well as some challenges presented to educational policy in Brazil. It is characterized as an exploratory study of a theoretical nature and is part of a set of three research projects at the doctoral level, carried out at a university in southern Brazil from 2017 to 2020. By contextualizing the current moment of neoliberalism in the country and presenting some foundations (...) of a human and ethical formation, we point to the current challenges present for the consolidation of an educational policy whose horizon is full human formation. The studies show that educational policy from the perspective of human formation today needs to guarantee conditions that articulate, within the school, access to scientific knowledge, creativity and self-organization of the subjects of the pedagogical process in its entirety. The target paper of Schoeller, Perlovsky, and Arseniev is an essential and timely contribution to a current shift of focus in neuroscience aiming to merge neurophysiological, psychological and physical principles in order to build the foundation for the physics of mind. Extending on previous work of Perlovsky et al. and Badre, the authors of the target paper present interesting mathematical models of several basic principles of the physics of mind, such as perception and cognition, concepts and emotions, instincts and (...) learning. Their conceptualization helps to clarify the distinction between conscious and unconscious aspects of mind that is often neglected and further provide a clear description of the mental hierarchy, which extends from physical objects in the physical world to abstract ideas in the mental/subjective realm. While we agree that identification of a few fundamental principles is a first step toward developing the physics of the mind, and we concur with the selection of those principles in the target review paper, we think that the theory of the physics of mind would much benefit from considering also the most basic principles that are common for the physics/matter/brain and the mind/subjectivity/cognition. In this respect, such basic principles as time and space, as well as criticality, self-organization, and emergence seem to be the most interesting. (shrink)

Compreende-se a obra sob a perspectiva da ficção weird pela conjunção entre os elementos de futuridade da narrativa e os conflitos sociais do interior do Brasil, circunscritos a uma realidade histórica. Misturando gêneros cinematográficos em um filme que vai do cangaço ao gore, Bacurau nos coloca frente a uma distopia sobre a proliferação de tecnologias de vigilância e controle e, sobretudo, sobre (...) a proliferação de sistemas políticos de morte.Palavras-chave: Bacurau. My purpose has been more negative than positive. That is, I have challenged the view that Sorai understoodtian as an intentional agent. At minimum, Sorai’s philosophical views do not depend upon such a conception oftian, and he refrains from characterizingtian in such terms when he discusses the concept oftian directly. However, I do not claim to have proven that Sorai’s view oftian was completely naturalistic, or even that Sorai did not—at some level—believe thattian had intentions. I have, I hope, shown (...) thatthe case that Sorai viewedtian as intentional has not been convincingly made. Further, something closer to a dynamic and indeterminate naturalistic view is a reasonable alternative. On my reading, Sorai steers a course between the Song Confucian view oftian as static and knowable (a view that he explicitly rejects) and a view oftian as intentional (a view he never unequivocally expresses)—indeed, he rejects the idea of personifyingtian. When Sorai speaks of thexin or mind of tian, he is best understood as employing a metaphor that implies complexity, mystery, activity, and perhaps moral structure, but not intentionality in the normal sense. The complexity, indeterminacy, and dynamism oftian, as these are expressed in Sorai’s writings, do not necessarily imply willful intent on the part oftian, for they are all consistent with the Xunzian interpretation oftian as a natural process, even iftian’s regularities have a moral character. It is frequently noted that a “crisis in language” accompanied the profound changes in human consciousness everywhere evident near the turn of the century. As the nature of reality itself became problematic—or at least suspect, distrusted for its imposition of limits upon individual imagination—so, necessarily, did the relationship of language to reality. Thus in the later nineteenth century, the adequacy of an essentially standardized form of “classical” writing was increasingly questioned as an effective vehicle for artistic expression: even though often (...) in “elevated” form, such writing bore too close a connection to ordinary discourse. Indeed, it was precisely the mutually shared, conventional aspects of language that came to be most deeply distrusted for their failure to mirror the more subjective, obscure, and improbable manifestations of a transcendent reality or, rather, realities—the plural reflecting an insistence upon the optional and provisional nature of human experience. Language in its normal manifestations—with its conventionalized vocabulary and standardized rules for syntactical combination—proved inadequate for an artistic sensibility demanding, in Friedrich Nietzsche’s words, “a world of abnormally drawn perspectives.”This dissatisfaction with “normal” language received its classic statement through Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s Lord Chandos. Writing in 1902, Hofmannsthal conveys through the figure of the aristocratic Chandos the loss of an encompassing framework within which the various objects of external reality are connected with one another and integrated with the internal reality of human feelings. Chandos’ world has become one of disparate, disconnected fragments, resistant to the abstractions of ordinary language. It is a world characterized by “a sort of feverish thought, but thought in a material that is more immediate, more fluid, and more intense than that of language.” Chandos longs for a new language in which not a single word is known to me, a language in which mute objects speak to me and in which perhaps one day, in the grave, I will give account of myself before an unknown judge.”2 The content and forms of art thus shifted away from exterior reality, which no longer provided a stable, “given” material, toward language itself—to “pure” language in a sense closely related to the symbolists’ “pure” poetry. “No artist tolerates reality,” Nietzsche proclaimed.3 And Gustave Flaubert’s farsighted advice to himself was that he should write “a book about nothing, a book dependent on nothing external, which would be held together by the internal strength of its style.”4 2. Further:The finest works are those that contain the least matter; the closer expression comes to thought, the closer language comes to coinciding and merging with it, the finer the result. I believe the future of Art lies in this direction. I see it, as it has developed from its beginnings, growing progressively more ethereal …. Form, in becoming more skillful, becomes attenuated, it leaves behind all liturgy, rule, measure; the epic is discarded in favor of the novel, verse in favor of prose; there is no longer any orthodoxy, and form is as free as the will of its creator. This progressive shedding of the burden of tradition can be observed everywhere: governments have gone through similar evolution, from oriental despotisms to the socialisms of the future.
